Rather than passively donating a sum to the PBTF, USBSI reached out to involve the public by pledging to donate $ 1 for every person who added themselves as a fan on USBSIs Facebook Page between February 1 and April 30, 2011. The donation campaign attracted 4,485 fans who liked and shared this noble cause. Stories of children with brain tumors and their families posted on USBSI page also encouraged and inspired many. TakeCharge.com, a social action network site, picked up the story and posted the campaign on its website enabling more people to participate.
The PBTF has been working since 1991 to help children afflicted with brain tumors. The foundation is working hard to eradicate the deadliest form of childhood cancer. The PBTF is the worlds largest source of funding for pediatric brain tumor research. It also offers support to patients and their families with educational literature and college scholarships.
Chris Chang, president of USBSI, explained the companys compassion behind the donation campaign. Just as important as any monetary contribution we make is to increase the awareness, even if by just a few people that is brought to the cause. Facebook is our means of accomplishing both goals this year. We hope more voices will lead more people to learn more about the PBTFs great work and extend their helping hands.
USBSIs support is much appreciated, said Dianne Traynor, PBTF president and chairman of the board. This unique fundraiser not only generated dollars that will support valuable research, but also raised public awareness about brain tumors and their impact on children and families, Traynor said. We thank US Bankcard Services, Inc. and all those who joined this effort to help the kids.
